IS SDG 1 POSSIBLE BY 2030 WITH THE HIGH CORRUPTION INDEX IN AFRICA: FOHA CEO QUIZZES

www.fohaghana.org

Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere

While global poverty rates have been cut by more than half since 2000, one in ten people in developing regions are still living with their families on less than the international poverty line of US$1.90 a day, and there are millions more who make little more than this daily amount. Significant progress has been made in many countries within Eastern and Southeastern Asia, but up to 42% of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa continues to live below the poverty line.

Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making.

Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality. Social protection systems need to be implemented to help alleviate the suffering of disaster-prone countries and provide support in the face of great economic risks. These systems will help strengthen responses by afflicted populations to unexpected economic losses during disasters and will eventually help to end extreme poverty in the most impoverished countries.

THE DEVASTATING EFFECT OF POVERTY ON HEALTH, FOHA CEO

Approximately 1.2 billion people in the world live in extreme poverty (less than one dollar per day). Poverty creates ill-health because it forces people to live in environments that make them sick, without decent shelter, clean water or adequate sanitation.

FOHA supports communities to design and implement 'pro-poor' health policies, that is, health policies which prioritize and respond to the needs of poor people. This work includes global advocacy, regional initiatives and direct support to ministries of health and health facilities  in pro poor communities

FOHA CEO Rev.Jefferson is calling on all especially duty bearers, individuals, religious bodies to get involved in the fight against poverty since it impacts negatively on the health of all especially the weak and the vulnerable in the hard to reach communities. FOHA has being on the fore front of public health campaigns for the past 11 years now in Ghana.

Let us together build a resilient community.

This discussion lasted close to two hours with various contributions on how we can improve upon public health care in Ghana. Prominent among the discussion was how to bridge the fear gap between clinicians and patients in order to reduce the disease burden, how to improve upon communication with patients at the health facilities, viewing patients are partners of the health Care system and involving them in their care. The issue of responsiveness and self sacrifice from health care professionals across the country was suggested to be the way to go in order to realize the change we are looking for in the health sector of Ghana, the breaking of medical  information to patients especially about chronic diseases with poor prognosis, professional way of breaking death information to patients relatives,  adopting innovative approach and taking advantage of the media ( both print, Televisions & radio) in order to correct most of the errorneous and misinformation in the public domain. The medical Team also touched on health and religion and suggestion was made to relook at how to partner with the religious groups in order to change the perception of those who have taking religion to the extreme to the neglected of medical advices and adhering to medical  advice. The medical professionals commended FOHA for the challenge it has taken over the years and enjoins all to support such a worthy course in bringing health care to the underserved population in Ghana. The programme lasted between the hours of 9 am to 3:30 pm. The Psalmist Praise Team was being led by Dr. Kesse who was the lead Organizer of the Event.
