Project Report on Dormaa Medical Outreach And 7th Anniversary Celebration

July 1st marks the 7th anniversary of the Friends of Health, Association and this year’s celebration was marked with health screening on Diabetes Mellitus, a group of metabolic disorder characterized by elevated sugar level in the blood, Hypertension, Body mass index to rule out obesity, breast examination to rule out breast cancer, prescription and administration of some drugs, health education in churches and clean –up exercise through the principal street of Dormaa Ahenkro.


The programme was done in collaboration with the Dormaa Traditional Council . It was a two days programme from Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th June. The programme started at 6am with keep fit exercise in collaboration with Classic keep fit club in Dormaa Ahenkro at the Park of the Dormaa Senior High school and the ended at 7 30am. It was followed with a massive clean-up exercise through the principal street of Dormaa Ahenkro and ended at 9am.

The Health screening exercise started at 9am to 5pm. In attendance was the Kontihene of Dormaa Traditional Council, Barima Ansu Adjei, who also happened to be the chief of Wamfie in the Brong Ahafo Region. Barima Ansu Adjei on behalf of Osagyefo Agyeman Badu II welcomed and thanked FOHA for bringing heath care to the people of Dormaa at no cost and promised their solidarity and support for FOHA. Barima Ansu Adjei again said, health is wealth and that it is time for people to be responsible for their health, take good and nutritious diet and live a healthy lifestyle. Barima again said, FOHA is doing great work and deserves to be supported. Also in attendance was the Adomakomahene of Dormaa Traditional Council, Nana Ansu Gyeabour, the chief of kyeremasu and many other divisional chiefs were also present. Barima Ansu Adjei took his turn first in the health screening exercise after an opening prayer was said by Rev. Jefferson Agbotro Kwasi, the founder and the executive director.
In all 109 people were screened in all the various aspect. People whose blood pressure and sugar levels detected to be high were advised to go to the nearest health centre for rechecking and if possible to be put on drugs if the doctor deems it appropriate.
FOHA medical team was 39 in number comprising of Medical Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, Nutritionist, Pharmacists, Students Nurses and Midwives. All these people sacrificed their time and money in order to put smiles on the indigenous people of Dormaa. FOHA did not take a pesewa from anyone.
Members of this organization are really giving out their best to the good people of Ghana and this will go a long way to increase productivity because it will take a healthy labour force to build a nation.
CHALLENGES: Inadequate funding for the project and also inadequate equipments for the project.
RECOMMENDATION: We appeal to government, institutions, individuals and all stakeholders of health to come to the aid of FOHA in terms of financial support and donation of health equipments in order to increase our scope of work and reach out to more people.
