Planned examination of the woman from conception till birth is known as antenatal care. Throughout pregnancy, the woman has 4-6 contacts with the health care provider. This care can happen at the health care facility or on outreach services. The objective of antenatal is to promote, protect and maintain the health of the mother during pregnancy, to detect high risk cases and give them attention, to remove anxiety associated with delivery and to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
