Dr. Paul Frimpong: Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Bono regional hospital is bemoaning the upward surge and rise in Maxillofacial injuries in recent times as a result of Motorcycle and Assault. According to him, it is becoming a common phenomenon and no week ends successfully without recording an accident of this nature as a result of OKADA, PRAGIA, ABOBOYAA and Assault. He said this during the Wednesday 5th February,2020 edition of the the clinical meeting of the Bono regional hospital, Sunyani. His assertion was empirically supported by a related research conducted by the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi in which they attributed 48.7% of all Maxillofacial injuries to Motorcycle specifically OKADA, PRAGIA and ABOBOYAA. This has become a public health concern for the nation. The Medical Director Dr. Dr. E.K. Amponsah and Dr. Alexander Egote ( Clinical Coordinator) of the Bono Regional hospital and all clinicians are calling for a joint Action between POLICY MAKERS & the Law Enforcement Agencies to collaborate as soon as possible in order to reverse this worrying trend of accidents on our roads that has reared its ugly head in recent times claiming scores of lives on daily basis. The following action decisions were recommended by the clinicians of the BONO regional hospital:
¶ Enforcement of the road traffic Act
¶ Wearing of seat belts
¶Wearing of helmets
¶Public Education on save driving
¶ Prohibition of illegal use of cyrines across our roads.
¶ Involving NGOs and corporate organizations for road safety campaigns.
¶ Ghana high ways authority and the road ministry must wake up from their sleep and work on all bad roads in our country.
¶ Political will to ensure safety on our roads by successive governments.
