Congratulations! Our Next Hero- Jovial Nyarko-Ababio

She has remained strong and firmly capable of effectively responding to the needs of her clients as well as her colleagues. She has a warm and welcoming spirit and takes challenges head on with smiles. She builds rapport easily with her patients, she attends to all calls, exceeds productivity expectation, she attends new training to keep her clinical practice up to date. She has exhibited continued and unwavering professionalism, dedication and passion in the face of incredible challenges as a nurse- midwife over the years. You have been selected as one of the astute health professionals of the year 2018, your meritorious and goodwill felicitations have hit the limelight, and in this special edition of “Honouring our Heroes", we say bravo!!!

 I introduce to you Mad.  Jovial Nyarko- Ababio as our next hero in the pursuit of her profession and contributions to quality health care in the Ghanaian community, specifically in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. She completed Sunyani Secondary school in the year 1984. She had her certificate in Nursing from Nursing Training College, Kumasi in August 1998, and Certificate in Midwifery in November 2002 from the same institution. She had her Nursing rotation at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital from 1998-1999. She had her Midwifery rotation at the Obstetric and Gynaecological unit of the Municipal hospital, Sunyani. She was the secretary of the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Brong Ahafo chapter from 2008-2012. She is currently the regional treasurer of the same nursing and Midwifery group by dent of her hardworking and leadership skills. She has worked at the Mother and Baby Unit, surgical department, all of the regional hospital, Sunyani. She was privileged to be part of two Ghanaians who were selected to attend a workshop on "Quality nursing care to prevent maternal and fetal death from 25Sep to 5 Oct, 2016, University of Cairo (Egypt)  for African nursing leaders, Faculty of nursing. She has being the in charge of the labor ward of the regional hospital, Sunyani from 2010 up to date. As the in charge, she organizes workshops for staff, teaches and coaches nurses and midwives under her jurisdiction, she also appraises her staff. She is a Christian with the SDA church; she loves prayer and models Christ at the centre of her work.  She has attended the following workshops to keep up with her professional skills:

  1. Make every baby count initiative ( MEBCI)
  2. Perinatal audit
  3. Postpartum hemorrhage prevention and management strategy
  4. Lifesaving skills
  5. Infection prevention
  6. New delivery book
  7. Compassionate care
  8. Midwives forum.

 She has high organizing skills, communication and strategic human relationship skills, good team player, innovative and dynamic leader, confident, highly discipline, good attitude towards work, takes initiatives.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU AND REASON FOR BEING A MIDWIFE? I want to make sure that every mother who comes to the labor ward goes home safely and with her baby. I am passionate about clinical health heath, specifically transferring skills and knowledge to students and staff by way of teaching them. Her work as a midwife resonates with passion, love and empathy, coupled with therapeutic care. She has served mother Ghana for over twenty (20) years now. The zeal, joy and the enthuse with which she does her work at the labor ward is infectious and admirable. These personalities are being profiled to celebrate hardworking, outstanding professionals who have served, and are still serving our country with their knowledge and talent. The idea behind is for us to recognize people whiles they are alive, and also to promote good and ethical work, encourage the younger generation to live up to expectation, with the hope that one day, they shall be noticed and appreciated. I do not want to reserve this honour behind the personalities hereby spoken of, but to let them know how well they mean to us.
