LEVEL 2: PERMISSION
This is the level where the leader builds relationship with his/ her team and wins both the heart and mind of his team. Leaders who are unable to build long and lasting relationship with their team only live to see how short lived their leadership influence is on their team. You can care about people without leading them, but you can not lead people without caring about them. Leaders at this level get involved in the interest of their team members and not just after results. As you connect with your team, win their trust, recognize their inputs and contributions towards the corporate goals of the organization, your influence on them will be inevitable. If you have been given a leadership position, then you have been given your boss' permission to lead, if you have acquired influence at level 2, then you have acquired your people's permission to lead, that is most powerful and great. Interacting with your team through dynamic facilitation, feedback sessions, self presentations, team building activities would help you to build strong relationship as a leader. Remaining too long at this level will also mean that you would develope more motivated people who would not produce results. Leadership is progressive and you must pay a price to be effective and relevant to your team and your generation. It will never be an event , but a process that all leaders must subject themselves to if they want to expand their influnce.
This brings us to our next level of leadership : PRODUCTION, which will be discussed in our next lesson.
