Hypertension (High blood Pressure)
Hypertension is another name for high blood pressure. Today is world hypertension day and we would like to raise some awareness on hypertension. This is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. It can lead to severe health complications such as heart disease and stroke.
Causes
There are 2 types of hypertension, primary and secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension tends to develop gradually over many years without a known exact cause. Secondary hypertension is when high blood pressure is caused by an underlying condition such as kidney disease, thyroid problems and certain medications.
Symptoms
Most people that have high blood pressure do not show any symptoms. Those that do have symptoms show the following symptoms:
•Headaches
•Shortness of breath
•Nosebleeds
Usually symptoms show when high blood pressure is severe. If left untreated, it can cause health conditions such as heart disease and stroke so it is highly advised to always adhere to treatment.
Risk factors
• Age
• Family history
•Being overweight
•Not being physically active
•Too much salt in your diet
•Stress
•Certain chronic conditions
•Pregnancy
