Health Screening for The People of Berekum

FOHA IS 6 YEARS OLD

As part of foha 6th year anniversary celebration, it had a health screening for the people of Kyiri

Twedee Abontema, a suburb of Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region, Ghana , West Africa.

The indegenous people of this community are predominantly farmers and traders. The total

population of this community is about thousand.

 

On the 1st July, 2014, foha organized free blood pressure assessment, checking of blood sugar

level, education on blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and hepatitis B infection.

In all one hundred and fourty-three people were screened: ninety-four women and fourty-nine

men.

Those whose blood pressure and sugar level detected to be high were counseled visit the nearest hospital or

health centre for recheck and possible medication.

Project was done in collaboration with the aaaemblyman of the area: Honourble Baffour-Awuah.

On behalf of the chief and the people of the community, the assemblyman thanked

foha for bringing health care to their doorsteps at no cost.

FOHA MEDICAL TEAM: Drs. Ilja and Annamieka from Holland, Nurses and Midwives.

Team was led by the Executive Director Rev.Jefferson Agbotro Kwasi.

On behalf of the board of governors, the Executive Director expressed his profound gratitude

to all foha members and volunteers who are giving their time and leisure for the good of people.

Foha medical team was made up of fifteen members.

Challenges: inadequate sponsorship in terms of finances, inadequate medical equipments.

Recommendation: FOHA is appealing to all and sundry to come to their aid to either donate

either in cash or in kind in order to expand the scope of work to other communities.
